What is Pattern Driving?
Pattern Driving or Habit Driving is the way people drive, these can be SAFE or UNSAFE driving habits. A Driver who integrates SAFETY into all their driving decisions regardless of the environment has established a pattern that reduces the risk of a crash.
Pattern driving can also refer to unsafe driving behaviors, like speeding and tailgating. This can also occur when a driver gets too comfortable with his or her route or routines and let their guard down. This is common, especially when drivers run routes to the same customers day after day and become COMPLACENT. In this case, complacency becomes a distraction, and the driver loses focus on his or her surroundings and the potential hazards that could lead to a crash.
UNSAFE DRIVING BEHAVIORS
* Using a phone while driving *Driving while fatigued
*Tailgating * Not wearing a Seatbelt
*Speeding * Driving under the influence
*Making frequent lane changes * Driving while sick
SAFE DRIVING BEHAVIORS
*Avoiding Distractions * Maintain the proper speed
* Reacting properly with Hazards
* Follow proper distance between other vehicles
*Stay in one lane if possible
Always be aware of your own Driving Pattern! Are you a Safe or Unsafe driver? What can you do to improve your driving skills?
